Chapter 7
Seeing that she had emerged victorious, Beth entered the elevator triumphantly and arrogantly.
Meanwhile, Ava stood rooted to the spot in front of the elevator. Patients and visitors who were in a
hurry to enter the elevator jostled past her, She stood alone for a long time before she blinked hard and
forced herself to be rational and compose herself. By the time she entered the elevator, her expression
was as calm as ever. She followed the instruction on the receipt and knocked on the door of the
doctor’s office.
“Come in.” The male voice that rang out from the room was somewhat familiar. Ava frowned and
realized that he sounded like an old friend.
She opened the door and realized that the doctor was indeed that friend of hers. “Selden Oakley?
You’re back from abroad?” Ava widened her eyes in surprise. The doctor sitting behind the desk raised

He looked like the protagonist of a comic book. “Ava!” He stood up and flashed a warm smile. He then
threw his arms open and took the initiative to embrace her. “When I saw the patient’s name, I was
hoping that it’s you. But I didn’t expect it to really be you! It’s been a while!”
He was embracing Ava with all his might, and he looked extremely emotional. Ava smiled and hugged
him back. She and Selden were classmates in high school and university, and they had a very good
relationship.
Back when she had a crush on Damien, Selden even taught her how to chase after Damien. But in the
end, she didn’t take Selden’s advice.
After that, Selden went abroad while Ava got married. They slowly stopped keeping in touch with each
other. “Why didn’t you tell me that you’re back?” After they were done hugging, Ava asked. Selden
pulled out a chair for Ava to take a seat. “I’ve been busy working since I came back, so I hadn’t had the
time to contact you. Moreover, didn’t you change your phone number?” Ava smiled in embarrassment.
It was true that she didn’t inform Selden that she had changed her phone number.
The two of them chit-chatted for a while when Selden inspected her ankle. After he prescribed some
medication for her, he insisted on accompanying her to the entrance so that she could call a cab.
Ava couldn’t refuse his kindness, so she just let Selden walk her to the entrance.
Her ankle was not actually that badly injured to the point that she couldn’t walk by herself, but Selden
stubbornly insisted on holding onto her as she walked. Ava didn’t want to trouble Selden. Moreover,
they would appear way too intimate while doing so. Selden, though, refused to budge. As they walked
towards the entrance, he said with a sullen expression, “You mustn’t forget your old friend just because
you’re married! Don’t you remember the time we used to risk our lives copying each other’s
homework?” Ava was so amused that she laughed out loud, and she shook her head in exasperation.
“Furthermore, I am a gentleman. It is my duty to take care of ladies in trouble,” Selden said and hailed

meal. I’ll be waiting for your call.” “Sure,” Ava said, “Why don’t you go in first? Isn’t there a patient
waiting for you?” Selden suddenly looked at Ava with a profound gaze and beckoned to her. “Come
over here. I have something very important to tell you.” “What?” Ava leaned over suspiciously. Selden
chuckled and grabbed Ava’s chin all of a sudden. He then gave her a hard peck on the cheek. Ava
blushed instantly and slapped him on the chest angrily. “What are you doing?” Selden laughed and
said, “I’m glad to see you again, Ava!” Ava rolled her eyes at him and closed the car door. “Sir, please
start the car!” She didn’t want to pay any more attention to Selden, who was a total playboy who never
cared about social conventions. Selden watched as the cab drove away. He then turned and looked
provocatively at Damien, who was sitting in his car not far away and staring at Selden with a sharp
gaze.
