Betrayal At The Altar

Chapter 575

Rachel was sound asleep, dreaming.

Although it was just a dream, it was something that had really happened.

She went back to that long night five years ago in Phareborough.

The air was tainted with the smell of blood and gunpowder. The person who got shot was lying on the ground,

struggling in pain.

However, no matter how fast she was, she could not surpass the speed of death.

No matter how hard she tried, she could only watch that person die. It was a huge blow for her.

Just as she was questioning herself, a bullet was fired at her.

Before she could turn around, someone suddenly showed up and pushed her to the ground.

Due to inertia, the two of them broke through the glass of the basement and rolled into a shabby and dark

basement.

There was no light inside. It was endless, like a depraved abyss.

There was a strange aura in the air, and the pattering sound became especially clear.

Rachel could not see what was inside clearly, but she was sensitive enough to sense that danger was approaching.

She could not help but tense up. She subconsciously reached for her weapon, but then she realized that she had

lost the dagger she carried with her.

Sensing her nervousness, the man beside her whispered. “Don’t be afraid.”

His voice was low and deep, like an ice-breaking spring tainted with a hint of coldness.

“You’re Crucsian?” Hearing the familiar language, Rachel felt more at ease.

The man responded indifferently.

On that long night, the man was like a guardian angel. He silently protected her and helped her make it out alive in

this world.

It was not until dawn when she slowly woke up and saw the blood on her hands that she realized that he was also

injured.

However, that man had disappeared without a trace.

There were no clues left behind.

She vaguely remembered that there seemed to be a faint smell of ebony on the man.

The cold wooden fragrance gradually became clear and real.

Rachel suddenly opened her eyes. When she saw David’s face that was so close to her, she could not help but be

stunned.

“Go to sleep.” David stretched out his arm and gently pulled her into his embrace.

Rachel took the opportunity to snuggle into his arms. Smelling that cold scent, she felt strangely at ease.

But no matter how she closed her eyes, she could not fall asleep.

The two of them hugged each other, their heartbeats gradually becoming synchronized.

David’s thin lips were pressed against her temple, kissing her.

She could feel his breath on her face sweeping the loose hair at her temples.

“It’s itchy.” Rachel couldn’t help but flinch.

She was smiling but she did not open her eyes. She kept her eyes closed, and the palm on his chest slowly

moved down to his waist. Her movements were slow as if she was recalling something.

However, what she was doing was leading David on.

His Adam’s apple bobbed as he reached for her wrist. “Are you seducing me?”

“Isn’t it because you don’t have enough self-control?” Rachel asked.

David raised his eyebrows. She was getting better at blaming others now!

“Do you want to visit grandma tonight?” David held her hand and kissed it gently.

Rachel nodded. “Sure.”

Under the afterglow of the setting sun, the two of them walked hand in hand into Old Mrs. Jones’s Trinisia garden.

Upon seeing their arrival, Old Mrs. Jones quickly put down the things in her hands and waved at Rachel. “Rae-Rae,

come over and let grandma take a good look

“Grandma. Rachel obediently walked up to her.

Old Mrs. Jones was grinning happily. She held Rachel’s hand and eyed her up and down and her gaze finally landed

on Rachel’s stomach.

Sensing Old Mrs. Jones’s burning gaze, Rachel was a little embarrassed and didn’t know how to react.

At this moment, David walked forward and reached our his arm to pull Rachel into his arms. “It’s been a while since

the last time I came here. Aren’t you going to let us in?”

“And you know it’s been a while.” Old Mrs. Jones glared at him angrily. Then, she looked at Rachel with a smile.

“Let’s go, Rae-Rae. Come on in and try the new coffee that I got.”

“Alright.” Rachel let Old Mrs. Jones hold her hand as they walked in.

David smiled. After the two of them walked away, the smile on his face faded a little. He looked at Rosie and asked

casually, “Has anyone disturbed Old Mrs. Jones recently?”

Although he did not say it explicitly, it was not difficult for Rosie to guess who he was talking about.

“She did come and made a scene a few days ago, Rosie said, “you know Old Mrs. Jones’s temper, Mr. David. She

has always been reasonable and fair. Moreover, she really adores Miss Grey. Miss Marina felt that Old Mrs. Jones

was playing favorites. In the end, the two of them parted on bad terms.”

With that, Rosie could not help but sigh. “Old Mrs. Jones said that she doesn’t care, but at the end of the day, Miss

Marina is her child.”

Ever since Marina made a scene and left, Old Mrs. Jones had not been able to sleep well during this period of time,

but she had reminded Rosie not to tell anyone.

David frowned slightly, and there was a terrifying tension mounting up in the room.

“Spread my word, from now on, whoever dares to let Marina in will be banished!” His deep and cold voice carried a

deterrent force.

When the (ser vants ) heard this, they answered as they trembled in fear, “Yes, Mr. David!”

In the living room, Old Mrs. Jones frowned when she heard this.

“This is… Rachel looked at the note in the coffee bean jar and carefully took it out.

Old Mrs. Jones suddenly came back to her senses. When she saw the note that Rachel took out, she seemed to

have suddenly thought of something. Then she stood up and (sna tched ) it over.

She unfolded the note and quickly read it.

It said. “In this sullen autumn, the wind is bleak and the moon is bright. The leaves gathered and sca ttered in the

wind, and the jackdaw was startled by the sound. I miss you and hope you and I will meet again, but I don’t know

when, and I can’t stand the lonely sadness anymore tonight.”

When she read the last sentence, Old Mrs. Jones tore the note into pieces and scolded angrily, “Pfft! This old (ba

stard ) is so shameless!”

“I miss you and hope you and I will meet again”?

In that case, should she close all the roads to Seaxas or get someone to break his legs?

It had been so long, but that man didn’t even come to look for her. All he did was write such a bad poem!

Would it kill him to be more sincere?

Old Mrs. Jones felt a surge of anger in her chest and she wanted to take it out on something so badly. When she saw

the coffee bean jar, she quickly walked over and threw it on the ground furiously.

With the sound of porcelain shattering. David and Rosie rushed in at the same time.

“Old Mrs. Jones.” Rosie hurriedly walked in. When she saw the broken coffee bean jar and the shredded paper on

the ground, she vaguely realized what was going on.

Rosie gave the (ser vants ) a look, indicating that they should quickly clean up the floor.

Rosie helped Old Mrs. Jones back to the armchair and sighed softly, saying regretfully, “That’s Blue Mountain and

it’s your favorite. It’s a pity that it shattered just like that.”

Old Mrs. Jones snorted angrily. “I do like Blue Mountain, but I can also live without it!”
