"Bang bang bang-" Several shots were fired in response.
Seth's shot had not hit Nina.
Nina squeezed her eyes shut in fear, her heart pounding wildly.
The gunfire, passing just by her cheek, left a sharp ringing in her ears as it hit the trees behind her.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtWhen she opened her eyes, she saw Seth abandoning everything and diving into the river without hesitation.
He had not shot her! Or perhaps, in that moment, he did not dare to.
Nina, still shaken, stood there breathing heavily, watching the spot where Seth had disappeared. The river ended in a rapid cascade, a large waterfall where the current was fast enough that falling into it would mean certain death or serious injury.
It was Seth's only option.
"Nina!" Nash rushed over, grabbing her arm and checking her for injuries. "Are you hurt?" Nina was too tense to breathe properly. She shook her head, her face pale. "I'm fine." Still rattled, she had gambled on Seth's hesitation to shoot, and she had been right.
For sreason, he did not dare kill her. From his expression, she could tell she posed a significant threat to him. He wanted to eliminate her but was too pressured to do so.
The special forces quickly caught up, finding the boat still there. They searched near the waterfall but saw no sign of Seth.
"Captain, he got away again! But with these rapids, he won't have an easy escape." "Search the city. As long as he's still here, he won't get far!" Nash ordered sternly, determined to finally bring Seth to justice.
Turning to Nina, he spoke seriously, "Why did you chere? Don't you know how dangerous it is? You should have stayed in the car. Coming here and confronting Seth. Are you out of your mind? If you don't care about your own life, at least consider how worried I am about you!" Sometimes, Nina acted out of sheer bravery. "He wouldn't kill me," she said, looking at Nash.
"What?" Nash frowned. "You think a criminal wouldn't dare?" Nina explained, "He shot atbut missed. His aim isn't that bad. He was under pressure when he sawand didn't dare to kill me." Nash glanced at the bullet holes in the trees, realizing Nina was telling the truth. It was surprising that Seth, capable of poisoning her, hesitated to shoot her. It did not seem logical at all. However, Nash was relieved Seth hadn't dared, as it had kept Nina safe.

Nash still wanted to reprimand her. "You were too reckless. Even if you wanted to buy tyou shouldn't e risk youNife like that. This tyou were lucky. What about next time? I don't want you taking such risks again!" Nina, still recovering from the scare, nodded. "I know." She would not always act impulsively. She would assess the situation first.
"But how did you know Seth would cout here?" Nash asked, ax asked m puzzled. "The lab is full of traps.
People got lost inside, yet you found his escape route so quickly." Nina was just as bewildered. "I didn't
