Chapter 747

“Her love life ain’t my business no more,

He shut his laptop, checking the time and realizing it was time to hit the hay.

But he was restless tonight. He tried showering and laying in bed, but sleep was a no–show.

He picked up a book, trying to read, but the words seemed gibberish.

At 1 AM, he got dressed again and headed out.

This time, he drove himself, parking at the RosenGarden.

A couple of lights were still on in the RosenGarden. He cracked his car window open and lit up a ciggy.

Halfway through, he pulled out his phone and dialed Maja.

No answer on the other end.

He slumped back in his seat/staring blankly ahead, with no idea why he’d driven here in the middle of the night.

With a self–deprecating chuckle, he decided to head back home.

On the way, he passed by the Pennyfeather group’s headquarters. But he didn’t give a damn about the

Pennyfeathers, so he didn’t even notice it was their building. A woman was frantically making a call at the entrance.

!

It was Zoey, unable to reach Maja. The Star Movie group’s series had passed the review, smashing records on its

premiere night. This was great news, the kind that should be shared with Maja.

But since the afternoon, her calls to Maja had gone unanswered.

Just a few hours ago, Maja had been nervously awaiting the viewing results with her.

Zoey was trying to hail a cab when she spotted a luxury car parked nearby and lan’s face in the window.

She tensed up.

She knew lan and had heard about him from Maja.

They were once engaged, though they’d called it off.

“Mr. Raymond.”

She called out politely.

lan’s hand was on the steering wheel. He glanced over at her when he heard his name.

Zoey swallowed.

“Um, I’ve been trying to call Maja all day, but she’s not answering. I’m worried she’s in trouble.”

“Maja?”

“Yes, Maja, your ex–wife.”

Zoey was at her wit’s end, so she asked lan for help.

lan frowned, clearly annoyed. Why was it always about this woman?

“Maja never goes off the grid, and today is incredibly important for us, Mr. Raymond, Could you?”

But before she could finish, lan stepped on the gas.

Zoey wasn’t above begging when she was genuinely worried about Maja.

“Mr. Raymond!”

She yelled, fumbling to grab the window. “I heard from Maja that you two are on good terms. If something’s

happened to her, wouldn’t you be worried?”

lan’s expression darkened. Good terms?

He and that woman were anything but.

“Let go.”

Zoey, still somewhat intimidated by him, let go.

lan stepped on the gas, feeling rather ticked off. He thought he shouldn’t have gone out tonight.

Maja was thirsty beyond endurance. She huddled in the dark room, feeling snakes slither over her ankles and

centipedes crawl onto her hands.

She was on the verge of a breakdown, curling up and trying not to think about the creepy crawlies.

She didn’t know how much time had passed, even hallucinating at times.

She was shivering from the cold, starving, and fear was coursing through her veins.

She started banging her head against the wall, the sound echoing in the room.

The people outside heard the noise and checked the time, thinking she’d been like this for hours. They figured she

was close to breaking down.

By 10 AM, the weather outside was clear, and the sound of Maja’s head hitting the wall was even clearer.

This had been going on for hours.

Maja no longer felt the pain. Whether her eyes were open or closed, all she saw was darkness.

The men outside were starting to feel weary. They yawned and joked, “She’ll probably lose her mind in three more

hours. The lady said to send her to the mental

hospital then. You stay here. I need a break. I’ve been up all night, and I’m beat.”

One of them left after saying this.

The one left behind glanced around.

There were no cameras in the room. Since she would be sent to a mental hospital eventually, he thought he might

as well have some fun before that.

He smirked at the thought of Maja’s face, feeling a thrill.

She was lan’s ex–wife. If he could have her, he’d be the envy of his buddies.

He was about to open the door when he heard footsteps behind him. It was Selena.

Selena seemed to know what he was thinking, raising an eyebrow.

Indeed, the woman was attractive, easily drawing men to her.

“You want her?”

“Ma’am, I wouldn’t dare. I was just.”

“If you want her, make sure to share with the others. Once you’re all satisfied, lock her up for a few more days.

When she’s released, send her straight to the mental hospital.”

His eyes lit up. “Sure, sure!”

Selena sneered, wondering who would want Maja after they were through with her.

After Selena left, the man quickly opened the door.

The room was suddenly flooded with light, but Maja’s eyes stung, and she started tearing up.

The man shuddered at the sight of the snakes and centipedes in the room..

But he noticed Maja hadn’t made a sound.

“Baby, I’m here.”
