Chapter 394

Maxim subconsciously glanced at Briana’s bedroom door, then quickly

turned and strode into the study.

“How was his situation then?”

“I heard the recovery wasn’t going very well, also… there’s one more thing.”

Maxim’s eyes turned cold, “Speak.”

There was news from Maureen’s family. Our people in Country Y had found their traces, but by the time they were found, Maureen’s parents were already dead, and Maureen herself was missing.

“Was the identity of the person who helped them escape from the country clarified?”

“Still hadn’t… the clue was lost…”

Maxim frowned, saying coldly, “Keep investigating, we must find out who’s pulling the strings behind the scenes!”

After hanging up the phone, Maxim stared at his mobile for a while, then dialed another number.

“Mr. Yoder, calling me so late, is there something wrong?”

Maxim’s expression was icy as he said, word by word, “Mr. Baldwin, I can agree to the condition you m entioned before, on the condition that Hector will not appear in front of my wife again!”

Albert was silent for a few seconds, then laughed and said, “Mr.

Yoder, it’s a pleasure to work with you.”

“Mr. Baldwin, I hope you can walk the talk, otherwise don’t blame me for not considering feelings.”

“Mr. Yoder, rest assured, Hector is my son and also the heir of the Baldwin family. I would not have allo wed him to do anything that would destroy another family,”

Maxim didn’t say anything else, he just hung up the phone.

Time fiew by quickly, and before they knew it, it was the day the Schneider family celebrated for Ruby.

The Schneider family had booked the entire third fioor of the largest riverside hotel in Bridenville, inviting almost everyone from Bridenville’s upper– class society.

Initially, Briana didn’t plan to come, but Melody was going to attend, so she pestered her for several d ays. Annoyed to the extreme, Briana had no choice but to agree.

When she entered the banquet hall with Maxim, there were already many guests inside.

The Schneider family had been entertaining guests, but upon seeing Maxim and Briana, they immediately hurried ov er to them.

Lacey and Desmond were getting on in years, yet they saw that Maxim still had a pleasing smile on his face.

“Mr. Yoder, Briana, you’ve arrived? Come over here and sit down -quickly.”

Lacey was incredibly warm towards Briana, her smile was more genuine than ever before.

Briana’s expression was indifferent, with no trace of emotion in her

eyes.

Just as she sat down, Lacey said with a smile, “Briana, have you been tired from work lately? If it’s too much, come back to the Schneider family, we can afford to take care of you!”

Briana took a just–listening attitude towards Lacey’s scene talk.

“Not tired. Oh right, where’s my cousin? Isn’t today her celebration?”

Speaking of Ruby, Lacey’s face was filled with genuine pride and joy. She said softly, “She’s upstairs on the fifth fioor, getting ready with a few friends. She’ll be down soon.”

Briana nodded, not asking any further.

The two of them didn’t really have much to say, gradually falling into silence.

Lacey glanced at the icy Maxim sitting next to Briana, and said in a slightly ingratiating tone, “Mr. Yode r, you don’t have to sit with us. There are many businessmen who cooperate with the Yoder Group atten

ding the banquet today. You should have more to talk about with them.”

Maxim gave a slight nod, “Okay.”

He looked at Briana, whispering, “I’ll go first, call me anytime if you need anything.”

“Good.”

Maxim had just stepped into the crowd when people started approaching him to talk, and it wasn’t jus t one person.

The Yoder Group was the largest company in Bridenville, and Maxim,

as the president of the Yoder Group, naturally became the center of attention wherever he went.

“Briana, you previously said you wanted to divorce Mr. Yoder, I really thought you two had no feelings l eft, so I didn’t interfere. But now that you two are back together, the matter of remarriage should also be put on the agenda.”

Upon hearing this, Briana couldn’t help but frown, “Grandma, this is between him and me, we will make our own decisions.”

A fiash of displeasure crossed Lacey’s eyes, “I’m only looking out for you. Sure, Mr. Yoder likes you now and listens to everything you say, but what if one day he falls for someone else? Then you’ll end up wit h nothing.”

After a few seconds of silence, Briana slowly said, “I’m with him not because I want something from him.
