Chapter 408

Charlie turned around and saw Emily lost in thought. He glanced at the ceramic cup in his hand and

finally realized he had taken her cup. He let out a reluctant apology, “This is your cup? Sorry, I’m kind of

dizzy.”

“Nah, no biggie!” Emily said breezily. “As long as you don’t mind, go ahead and use it!”

She then turned and walked briskly to the kitchen, forgetting to ask what she intended to.

Charlie cleaned and disinfected the cup before putting it back in its place, worried that he might pass

on his cold to Emily. He then went to sit on the sofa on the balcony, closed his eyes and enjoyed the

cool breeze.

After an hour of preparing dinner, Emily called out to Charlie, but he didn’t answer.

She saw his shadow on the balcony, walked over and found him asleep on the sofa.

It was chilly in early autumn. Emily closed the window before gently calling, “Charlie?”

“Charlie!”

“Hmm?” Charlie slowly opened his groggy eyes, looking at Emily before remembering where he was.

“Food’s ready. Would you like to have it now?” Emily asked in a softer voice.

Charlie wanted to get up, but he felt so dizzy that he had to sit back down. He closed his eyes, realizing

that he really had caught a cold.

Emily noticed that something was wrong with him and walked over to ask, “What’s wrong? Are you not

feeling well?”

Charlie leaned his head back on the sofa and asked with eyes closed, “Emily, can you forehead? Do I

have a fever?”

Emily’s face turned serious as she kneeled down, put her hand on his forehead, and found it burning

hot. She pulled her hand back, frowned, and said, “Yes, you have a fever.”

Charlie’s body was cold, but his head was hot. Emily’s cool, soft touch almost made him sigh in

comfort, but she quickly moved her hand away.

He suddenly felt empty inside and wanted to grab her hand and press it back on his forehead, never

letting her go.

“Should we go to the hospital?” Emily asked worriedly.

“No, do you have any medicine to treat colds? Just one pill would do,” Charlie said, half–squinting at

Emily.

“Yeah!” Emily nodded immediately. “Wait, I’ll go get it!”

She got up and left, and Charlie lazily closed his eyes again.

Emily soon returned with a box of pills, got some cold medicine, and also some fever reducers.

She went to get some water but couldn’t find another cup. She remembered that Charlie had already

drunk from her cup earlier, so she decided not to care about that and hastily poured some warm

water to pass to Charlie.

“Take both pills together,” Emily handed them to him.

Charlie felt so feverish that he could hardly keep his eyes open. He just grunted and fell back onto the

sofa.

Emily had no choice but to put the pills in his mouth and whispered, “Open up.”

She was quite experienced in this since she had taken care of him for a whole week after she

accidentally gave him a concussion.

Charlie obediently opened his mouth, but he also took Emily’s fingers into his mouth, sucking lightly.

Emily froze on the spot, her heart pounding. She quickly pulled her hand out and stood up straight,

embarrassment and annoyance washing over her as she helplessly looked at the feverish man.

“It taste so bitter!” he mumbled. “Emily!”

Charlie’s random muttering continued with his eyes closed.

The pill dissolved in his mouth, but there was no water to wash it down. It was unbearably bitter.

Emily hesitated for a while, thinking she shouldn’t argue with a sick person. After taking a deep breath,

she squatted down again, sending the cup of water to his lips.

Charlie drank a few sips, closed his eyes, and fell asleep
