Chapter 1084 This Is All I Have

"Why do you always say that you are a bad guy?" Alivia did not understand his thoughts, "I don't know what others

think of you, but I only believe what I see."

Facing her resolute gaze in the confined car compartment, Bert had to look away first this time.

Silence settled in, thick with a strange atmosphere.

The lingering unease enveloped Alivia once more, and she absentmindedly reached into her pocket, feeling a hard

corner.

In her haste to speak earlier, she had almost forgotten something---something she needed to hand over to him.

She retrieved a white envelope and handed it to him, saying, "By the way, this is the money I've saved up. Though

it's not much, it's all I have left. You can take it. I'll slowly repay the eighty thousand dollars."

Bert lowered his gaze, his eyes falling on the rectangular package. It was merely three fingers thick, a mere drop in

the ocean compared to the sum of money she owed.

Meeting him again, the first thing on her mind was repaying the debt. How much did she hate owing him to be in

such a hurry to clear her name and boundaries?

The realization annoyed Bert. He sneered at her words; it seemed she was just playing the good person card.

He didn't accept nor refuse. Alivia held the envelope in front of him, waving it for nearly a minute, "Mr. Harper?"

She called.

"I've said I won't take your money," Bert replied, his tone now icy compared to the earlier calm.

This wasn't the first time he had said this, but repaying a debt was only fair. Although he didn't want it, she owed it,

and she would pay it back to the last penny. It was a lesson her mother, Romy, had taught them since they were

young.

Seeing he had no intention of taking the money, Alivia placed the envelope on the central console between them, "I

said I would repay you."

To her surprise, before she could react, the envelope was picked up by a large hand. With a 'click,' the car window

was lowered, and in one swift motion, the man threw the bag out of the window.

"What are you doing?" Alivia cried out in shock. Without hesitation, she got out of the car, went around to his side,

and bent down to pick up the fallen envelope.

It had gathered some dust, but that didn't matter; the money was intact.

Meanwhile, the man inside the car seemed to be enjoying the spectacle. With a burning flame in her chest, Alivia

returned to the passenger seat, slammed the door shut, and squarely faced him, "Why did you throw the money

away?"

"I don't want it," he replied, his thin lips parting slightly, repeating the same words.

Despite the pain in her hands from gripping the envelope too tightly, Alivia didn't seem to notice. She stared at the

man in front of her and said with a stiff expression, "Why not? Do you find it insufficient or not worth it?"

Bert had no such intention, but he wasn't one to be good at explaining. Irritated by her pressing questions, he

simply stated, "The bullet you took for me has repaid it."

Alivia was choked up, her words stuck in her throat. After a moment, she managed to say, "That's another matter.

We're not doing a transaction!"

He seemed completely indifferent, which pricked at Alivia's pride. He made her feel foolish for holding onto the

money. Yet, when she withdrew that sum from her bank account, she had been so happy. The thought of repaying

even a little made her ecstatic. However, none of it seemed to matter to him.
