Chapter 345

Evadne swallowed her surprise, hiding the “How could it be you?” that was on the tip of her tongue.

Avery, immaculately dressed in a black suit, led a magnificent horse that shimmered like a constellation

in the night. He looked like a prince straight out of a medieval castle.

“Just checking up on you.”

“How’s your injury? You need at least two months of rest. And what about the cast on your arm?”

Evadne couldn’t help but worry about him, remembering the frightful incident.

“With you worried about me, I wouldn’t fear even the worst of injuries.” Avery looked at her with an

affectionate gaze.

Evadne found herself lost for words.

“I came not only to see you but to bring this. You left ih a hurry last time and couldn’t take it with you.”

I

“Ave, this horse is beautiful. Thank you, but it’s too precious. I can’t accept it.” Evadne tactfully

declined.

“Evadne, did I upset you somehow? Are you still upset about that day?”

“No, I’m over it. My relationship with Thaddeus, even without blocking him, is basically the same as if I

had.” Evadne laughed it off lightly.

Avery tightened his grip on the reins. “I picked this horse especially for you. It was shipped over from

abroad and I had it stabled at the Chambers Group’s stables, behind the Chambers family’s back. But

you saw what happened. My brother now manages the stable. There’s no way I can keep it there

anymore. But I don’t have enough space at home either. So, could you help me take care of it? Just as

a favor.”

Faced with such a request, Evadne found it hard to refuse,

“I’ll take care of it for now. As soon as you find a place for it, let me know and I’ll bring it over.”

Evadne’s eyes sparkled as she gazed at the horse. It was clear she was thrilled.

“But remember, I’m only looking after it for you,” she added, mindful of the principle of not accepting

gifts without reason.

“Sure. As soon as I find a place, I’ll take it back.”

Avery looked up at the night sky as snowflakes fell around them. “Evadne, it’s a bit chilly out here in

Skyrim. Can I come in for a hot coffee?”

Embarrassed at her oversight, Evadne quickly invited him in.

Avery, with a hint of a smile, followed her into the Silverlake Harbor.

Just as the grand doors were about to close, Avery paused, glancing back with a cold smirk. “Coward,”

he muttered.

Meanwhile, Thaddeus was standing by a window, lost in thought.

He chain–smoked, filling the crystal ashtray with cigarette butts. The room was filled with smoke,

shrouding his brooding yet lonely figure.

Thaddeus was choked with regrets. He had let his pride and anger cloud his judgement. It was only

after Evadne had left that he realized the depth of his feelings for her.

Just then, his phone rang. It was from Gordon.

“Mr. Thaddeus, I did as you asked and staked out Mrs. Abernathy’s place. Finally saw her,” Gordon

said, his voice devoid of any relief.

“How did she look?” Thaddeus asked, his voice steady.

When Gordon sent over some pictures, Thaddeus was taken aback. From the angle of the photo, it

looked like Avery was whispering sweet nothings into Evadne’s ear.

Fury consumed Thaddeus as he looked at the intimate photo. His love for Evadne did not mean he had

no pride, no self–respect.

Thaddeus seethed with a rage that only intensified, his hazel eyes sparkling a deeper hue of crimson.

Bang!

He slammed a fist into the glass window, making a startlingly loud noise that nearly scared the soul out

of Gordon on the other end of the phone!

“Calm down, Mr. Thaddeus, if you can’t stand it, come in person. Avery is at Mrs Abernathy’s house

right now. You can’t just let it slide and let that man win. That’s tantamount to admitting defeat, isn’t it?”

“Go see her? Why should I go see her?”

Thaddeus trembled with fury, his chest heaving violently. His eyes were moist, mirroring the

wretchedness and despair of a drenched puppy in the rain.

“She said she never wants to see me again, didn’t she? Then I’ll grant her wish.

There should be a limit to torment, Evadne
