Chapter 264

Thaddeus suddenly collapsed in a pool of his own blood right before their eyes, sending a shock of terror through the three men.

Thankfully, they were right outside the hospital. Jareth and Gordon quickly scrambled to assist the doctors and nurses in getting him into the emergency room.

Jason stood still at the other end of the hallway, watching in disbelief as Thaddeus, his l*ps stained with blood and his face as pale as a sheet, was rushed through the crucial moment. What the hell had just happened?

Was this another one of his dramatic ploys?

But he had come back from the Misty Mountain with Miss Evadne unscathed. How could this strong, imposing man Just collapse?

“Mr. Jareth, will Thaddeus?” Gordon muttered, his fists clenched and his eyes welling up with tears.

“No.”

Jareth, his eyes bloodshot and filled with fear, stared at the light that had turned on in the emergency room. “Thaddeus will be fine. He’s the toughest, most badass, bravest man I’ve ever met. He won’t let something like this take him down.”

At that moment, one of Cassius’s b*dyguards approached Jason and bowed.

“Mr. Jason, President Ashbourne has sent me to escort you upstairs.”

“Okay.”

Jason was feeling rather distressed. He was about to leave when he suddenly halted and turned to the b*dyguard, speaking in a low voice. “Mr. Thaddeus

from the Abernathy Group is in the emergency room. Tell President Ashbourne to get two of the top doctors here to treat him.”

After sleeping until late afternoon the next day, Evadne slowly opened her eyes, looking as if she had just woken up from a long sleep.. “Ugh, where am I?”

She felt weak all over, as if all her strength had been drained from her b*dy.

“Evadne! You’re awake! It’s me, Bennett!” Bennett cried out, rushing to her side and hugging her tightly.

He had stayed up all night holding onto her hand, his eyes red and swollen from crying.

“Bennett, is that really you?” Evadne’s eyes widened, tears welling up in them, as her nose turned a bright red.:

Bennett nodded vigorously, planting a k*ss on her forehead.

She was no longer burning up, her fever had subsided.

The doctor had said that it was a good thing that they had gotten her to the hospital in time. If they had been any later, she might have developed pneumonia, meningitis, or myocarditis, which would have been very bad.

“Is everything okay with the army? How did you get leave to come here?” Evadne wasn’t concerned about her own condition, but was worried about Bennett.

“It’s important. But no matter how important it is, you will always be my number one priority.”

“Bennett.” Evadne wrapped her arms around his neck, pressing her cheek against his.

Bennett hadn’t seen his little sister in a long time. Seeing her much thinner than before and the light in her eyes gone, he felt a sharp pain in his heart, a bitter taste in his throat. “By the way, how did I get here?” Evadne asked, Bennett helping her sit up and lean against the head of the bed.

Bennett remained silent.

“Where’s Thaddeus?” Evadne asked, her volce a bit hoarse.

“He came back with us in the helicopter, he’s alive and well. Don’t worry about him.” Bennett said coldly.

But for some reason, Evadne felt a strange sense of unease. “Where is he?”

Just then, the door to the hospital room opened.

Cassius and Jason entered the room, both looking relieved to see Evadne awake.

“Miss Evadne!”

Jason was so overjoyed that he couldn’t close his mouth, and tears welled up in his eyes.

About to rush over, he saw Bennett and decided to show some restraint. He respectfully bowed before approaching the bed.

“You must have been scared last night, weren’t you, Jason?”

Evadne looked at him, her eyes still dim but a small smile on her l*ps. “I’m sorry, I was reckless. But it was a matter of life and death, and I had no choice.”

Jason looked at her, choking back tears and shaking his head.

He had heard that Evadne had almost fallen off a cliff and could have died.

It was Thaddeus who had saved her life at the crucial moment.

“There’s something I need to tell you, Miss Evadne.”

Jason hesitated before finally saying, “Thaddeus‘ sustained serious internal injuries. He even coughed up blood.”

“What?”

Evadne sat up straight, her eyes wide and her breathing heavy. “How did this happen?”

Both Cassius and Bennett were surprised by this news as well, their faces showing their shock.

“The attending doctor said that he suffered a severe impact to his back, which damaged his internal organs and caused the bleeding.” Jason answered truthfully.

Although he despised Thaddeus, he wasn’t the type to stir up trouble or hide the truth.

Evadne’s eyes widened, and she suddenly remembered something.

When Thaddeus had pulled her back from the edge of the cliff, he had held her tightly and rolled away to avold falling rocks. His back had hit a large boulder.

But he had said he was fine!

Evadne felt a mix of worry and anger, her eyes filling with tears as she swung her legs off the bed.

This sudden movement alarmed the three men who cared about her. They quickly rushed to dissuade her.

“Evadne, where are you going? Are you going to see Thaddeus?” Bennett held her shoulders.

“He is injured because of me. I can’t just sit here and do nothing!” Evadne was determined to go see Thaddeus.

“Why would you want to see him? He deserves whatever happened to him, whether he lives or dies!”

“Bennett.”

Bennett’s eyes were filled with anger, his fingers digging into her shoulders. “You’ve been worrying about him for thirteen years, can you please stop caring about this jerk? Please, for your own sake, take care of yourself!”

“Bennett.”

Evadne took a deep breath, her voice soft but firm. “I can be heartless, but I can’t be inhumane. You can’t deny that without him, you might not have seen me again.”

In the end, Bennett couldn’t convince Evadne.

She still found out which hospital room Thaddeus was in. Assisted by Jason, she pushed the door open.

To their surprise, the room was completely empty, with the bed neatly made.

Still, Evadne could sense a man’s unique scent in the air, like an impenetrable net tightly grasping her heart.

“Madam, where is the man who was staying here?” Evadne stopped a nurse to ask.

“He was discharged this afternoon.”
