A moment of silence later, Mike still could not hold himself back. “I promised Alex I'd keep you safe, so | won't let you die here.”
His tone was determined as he repeated his promise, even if Lily did not take the matter to heart. She walked around the room and
realized it was pretty small but much better than where she stayed when she worked for X Department.
All the bedding and other necessities were prepared. Then she looked at the bathroom and breathed a sigh of relief when she
noticed they did not install any surveillance cameras in her room or the bathroom. If they did, that would rid her of all privacy.
After dealing with this matter for quite stime, she was already tired and pulled a chair closer to take a seat. When she noticed
Mike still standing at the door, looking demure, she said softly, “It's okay. | didn’t choose to do this in the heat of the moment, so
you don’t have to get so worked up over this.
“Even if | didn’t say those things, they wouldn't keephere once | couldn't provide any value to them anymore, so | don’t need
to walk on eggshells around them. Since they still need me, anything | say wouldn't matter. The sgoes for when they don’t

“Oh, right. Speaking of your son, do you still have no clue about his whereabouts?” Lily asked, “It's been stsince you've
worked here. Can't you just...”
Before she finished her words, Mike interrupted her hastily, “No! | tried, and it's useless. Now, | can only do anything that the
organization's superiors request. Once it's done, | believe Nicky will return to my side, safe and sound.”
Lily had no words, as his words sounded strange to her. Before she could voice her doubts, she saw Mike striding toward her. Then
he stretched his arm out, wanting to grip hers.
Surprised, Lily wanted to fight back but noticed his other hand was on his lips, motioning for her to stay silent while his eyes
glanced left and right.
She got the hint and stopped resisting. Instead, she played along with his words. “Are you that loyal to them?”
“This isn’t about loyalty, but this is a place where the weak bow to the strong. | resisted and struggled before, but nothing seemed
to work. | can’t find my son after so long, so | have no choice but to give in to them!” As he spoke, he stuck a tiny, circular thing
onto Lily's collar.
It was placed near her lips.
Lily looked down in confusion and recognized it was a signal jammer he had placed on her. When she looked at Mike again, their
gazes met before she scanned her surroundings and said, “You're right. If | had a choice, | wouldn't be here either.”
Lily sighed dejectedly and exchanged a glance with him. Then she straightened her collar. “Whatever. I'll just hope for the best.

“As soon as possible! The sooner we finish this project, the sooner we can get what we want. Our families will be safe, too,” Mike
said solemnly, “I won't interrupt your rest. In three hours, I'll pick you up and bring you to the lab, where you can get right to
work.”
“Okay.” Lily appeared to be hopeless. “I guess that's the only thing we can do.”
Mike took one last glance at her before leaving, closing the door after him.
At the office on the top floor, the tiny man removed his earphones and dug his ears, frowning as he looked at the device. His
earphones were emitting sounds that hurt his ears.
‘Tsk. It seems that the signal interference is happening more frequently these days.”
