The man’s eyes darted left and right thoughtfully after hearing what Lily said. Due to his small figure, he looked funny as his chest
heaved and fell heavily.
“Indeed, I'd like to succeed, so | won't allow myself to die before that. However, if you don’t obey me, we'll all die together!” He
laughed as if he had prepared for it.
After laughing, he walked over and climbed back up to his chair to sit. Crossing his legs, he leisurely sipped his tea, then said, “All
right, stop wasting my twith your idle talk. Mike said a lot to you, but | advise you two not to get ahead of yourselves. You guys
are no match for us.”

“Us?” Lily quirked her eyebrows.
“Surprised? You knew long ago that we're an organization, and it's not just me.” He shrugged indifferently. “Lily, tell me. Have you
made any progress?”
He propped his elbow on the desk and leaned forward before resting his chin on his interlocking hands. He gave her an inquiring
gaze but looked weird in such a posture.
“Nope,” Lily answered readily, “The task you've givenhas nothing to do with your ultimate goal. | have no idea why you're
wasting my there. As you said, we're on a tight schedule. Shouldn't you handthe task that truly matters? You're the one
stalling by givingunimportant tasks,” she said forcefully.
The man laughingly shook his head, then waved his index finger. “No, no, no! Every project is important as each of them serves a
different purpose. For example—"
“For example, numbing one’s nerves and causing someone to lose their volition? Or letting the virus invade human bodies and
using the immune cells to attack the victims?” Lily interjected.
The man’s open mouth closed, and he smiled meaningfully. He spread his arms and said, “See? | knew we were on the same
wavelength. You know very well what we're trying to do!”
‘Swavelength, my a*s!’

Lily wanted to tell him that, but she stopped herself. “Since | do, then lethandle the toughest project. You've got my help, so
let's not waste my ton other projects.”
The man sized her up solemnly and nodded. “All right! But you must complete the task under the supervision of my man.”
Lily glanced spontaneously at Mike. “Him?”
“Him?” The man chuckled and shook his head. “He doesn’t count. I've found you a good assistant who can surely help you with the
task.”
He raised his hands and clapped a few times gently.
At this juncture, footsteps sounded, and Lily looked over her shoulder. Mike also turned his head to glance toward the sound.
