Edward fell silent after hearing Lily's question. He balled up his fists, then slowly unclenched them. “I.... couldn't care that much,”
he said, sounding like he was holding back his emotions.
“Yes, | didn’t have tfor that! Although many innocent people are here, | can only sacrifice them to save many others."
Lily asked, “We're not that desperate yet! How could you not have talked to us about such an important decision? Did you even
discuss it with Alex? | highly doubt it!”
She looked at Edward. She did not mean to blhim but sounded slightly upset.
‘He worked for Alex for many years, and Alex treated him like a brother. Yet, he kept such a critical thing from Alex and decided
independently. He'll sacrifice not just many innocent peoples’ lives but also his. If Alex finds out about this, he'll be heartbroken!”

He only made it back from Burnwken because someone had saved him. Edward initially thought he was no longer in danger but
was in a stupor and kept waking up and passing out again.
When he awoke, he was in physical agony. He vaguely heard people talking but could not determine what they were saying. There
were also shadowy figures moving around, and then someone injected him.
The needle mildly stung him, but he later suffered unbearable physical pain. After a while, a voice kept repeating into his ear, “Who
is Alexander Russell?”
He answered groggily, “Alex is my boss and friend.”
“No, Alexander is your enemy. He's the one who abandoned you. Have you forgotten? He pushed you to shield himself from the
bullets.”
“No, no...”
“Yes! | saved your life, and it's Alexander who nearly got you killed!”
Edward knew it was untrue but could not wake up from his stupor. He repeatedly tried to resist the suggestion before losing
consciousness. Then he suddenly jerked awake as if having been roused from a nightmare.
He collected himself and felt much calmer as he gazed steadily at Lily, “I know it's unfair to many people, but | couldn't care that
much because this place is way more terrifying than you realize. Besides, | didn’t have tto discuss my plan with anyone.”
Saddened, his eyes gradually lost their glow.

“Well, even if you didn’t have tto discuss it, you could have at least informed us about it, couldn't you? Besides, have you
thought your plan through? How big is the place, and how many bombs do you need?
“Also, are you certain that blowing the place up can eradicate all the viruses? What if you end up destroying the building and not
the viruses?”
Lily continued, “On top of that, without anyone or equipment to contain them, would the viruses mutate and spread even faster?”
“Well...” Edward was shocked by what she said as he had never considered these possibilities.
In other words, it was not that he did not plan things well enough, but he had zero knowledge about viruses or what might happen
if one did not contain them. He naively thought he could solve the problem by blowing up the place.
“But... what else could | do?” He was on the verge of breaking down. He thought he had planned it well and even prepared to die.
He was not afraid of death, but his actions would spread the viruses even faster if Lily were right. He would be making a grave
mistake.
