I didn't know why I felt like crying. My heart felt heavy and swollen, like a sponge soaked with water.

Maybe it was because someone finally showedscare again in this house without my parents, a place where I felt so neglected.

Or maybe it was because Brandon understood me. Maybe he knew that even though I had left the amusement park, my heart was still tied to it.

I kept looking at the note repeatedly. When I finally took it down and left the bathroom, I saw the thermos and the fried egg on the small dining table in the kitchen.

At that moment, I pressed the note to my chest, and tears started rolling down my cheeks.

I didn't take Brandon's effort for granted. After eating the breakfast he made for me, I sent him a message. "Thank you." These two words seemed so simple, but I couldn't just take his kindness for granted.

After sending the message, I started tinkering with the things I bought from the night market last night. Before I could get far, my phone rang.

For a split second, my heart raced. I was filled with anticipation.

But when I saw the number, my heart rate becnormal again. I sighed and answered the call. "Mr. Yates." Gordon cleared his throat first. "Ms. Crown, have you found a new job?" The question cout of nowhere. I said while nodding, "Yes, is there something you need?" Gordon cleared his throat again and instead of answering, he asked another question. "Have you started?" I could sense that he had something to say, "Mr. Yates, just say what you need to say." "Uh, no, nothing. Just checking in," Gordon replied evasively.

I scoffed lightly. "Mr. Yates, if you care so much, just say it directly instead of beating around the bush." Gordon fell silent. I guessed he was struggling with whether to tellthe truth.

I wasn't in a hurry. I didn't push him. I just waited patiently, putting my phone on speaker and continuing to fiddle with my little trinkets.

"Mr. Gildon knows about your new job," Gordon finally said after his internal struggle.

I wasn't surprised, but I knew Gordon called for more than just this. I stopped what I was doing, "So, what? Is he going to cause trouble again?" "Ms. Crown, you do understand Mr. Gildon well." Gordon's words madefrown.

It seemed Chris didn't wantto start my new job smoothly. But I hadn't received any calls from my new employer.

Although I hadn't started yet, I had already signed the contract. If they wanted to terminate it, they would have to notify me.

I wasn't angry. I laughed lightly and asked Gordon, "Did he threaten them, saying if they hired me, he'd make sure they disappeared from Hilcord?" Gordon chuckled.

It seemed I was right. Chris, the CEO of Gildon Corporation, had the typical overbearing CEO syndrome: kem believed that he was the center of the En universe and no one should cross him. If anyone did, he'd make sure they disappeared from the face of the earth.

"Well, then he better be prepared to m get rid of all the companies Hilcord. N retorted in a mocking tone.

Le.

Gordon sighed, "Ms. Crown, Mr. Gildon still cares about you."

I laughed lightly, and Gordon added, "He was quite embarrassed when you didn't show up for the proposal yesterday. He threw a fit at the time, but on the way back, he mentioned tothat if you cback, he'd let Jewel go." I stared at my phone. "It's too late." "Ms. Crown..." Gordon wanted to say more, but I didn't give him the chance.

"Gordon, I have a boyfriend now." Gordon was stunned for a few seconds. "What? So soon?" X
