Chapter 203 The silence was suffocating.

As I was thinking of something to say that we could use to end the call, Bree's voice piped up again. In a low voice, she said, "It's all because of that woman. I will never forgive her for this." Bree sounded like she was gnashing her teeth as she said that. It was my first thearing her like this.

At once, a shiver ran down my spine. I had no idea what to say.

"Maddie," she said. "Clook after him when you're free. Only you can make him feel a little better." FOR Her words placed a tremendous pressure on me, but I agreed anyway.

Hanging up, I lay back against the seat weakly. It felt like something was pressing against my chest, makingunable to breathe.

After getting home, I curled up on the sofa, wracking my brain. All the evidence pointed toward Arthur, However, Arthur and Zack were business acquaintances. What was even more suspicious was the fact that the road to Arthur's sanatorium was marked as a hidden route.

Why would it be hidden if they had nothing to hide? There were a million questions in my head that I didn't want to think about, but I just couldn't help myself. My head was close to exploding.

I grabbed a pillow and buried my head in it. This was my own personal brand of torture. I used it whenever I felt frustrated or stuck about something.

When I was about to suffocate, someone knocked on the door.

At first, I thought it was my mind playing tricks on me. Then, someone called my name.

I released the pillow and walked toward the door.

It might be daytime, but there was still a safety risk. I asked warily, "Who is it?" "It's me, Brandon." I was stunned. Why was he here? Did something happen? I opened the door to see him standing in a black T-shirt and construction pants. He looked good.

"Why did you chere?" I asked, stunned.

Then, something warm pressed against my forehead. It was his hand. The warmth from his skin comforted me, providingwith a sense of safety that was hard to put into words. "You're not feverish anymore." He raised the bag in his hand slightly.

It was filled with vegetables. The leaves were green, indicating that they were freshly-bought.

"How does a salad and steak for lunch sound?" Brandon asked. He gave the impression of a considerate husband.

I pursed my lips. "It's too much trouble. I'll just order take..." Before I could finish my sentence, Brandon cutoff. You can't have anything too greasy right now." I wasn't even aware of when Brandon entered my house. When I cto, he was already in the kitchen.

I would never be able to repay him for all the kindness be had shown me.

I held a glass of water and walked into the kitchen, leaning against the door as I watched him busy himself with an apron tied around his waist.

"Why do you have the tto chere? Have you settled things at the playground?" I asked.

"Almost." He chopped up the vegetables expertly. There was no need to look at the vegetables. Based op the sounds of the chopping board alone, one could tell that he had exceptional skill. "Tellwhen you're done," I reminded him. "Alright," he replied.

I swallowed my saliva, resting my gaze on him. I sized him up. I had to admit, he was a snack no matter which angle I looked at him. His curvy ass was sorely tempting.

I placed my focus on the mole on his neck to prevent myself from having any perverse thoughts. "We didn't call today, did we, Brandon?" "No." "How did you know I was at home?" I asked.

I had just thought about it. I didn't tell him that I was home, not even Kara, but he cknocking with a bag х
