Chapter 623

Esther and Mandy were surprised by Chadwick’s unexpected arrival.

“Are you here to see me?” Mandy asked Chadwick with a loving look.

Chadwick raised an eyebrow and replied, “Mandy, take care of your sister-in-law. I wouldn’t want that scoundrel to

make a fool out of me in a tricky situation.”

“Brother, she’s not that kind of person,” Mandy calmly defended Esther. “Please don’t misunderstand her.”

Chadwick coldly remarked, “Wasn’t her scandalous video all over the internet?”

Embarrassed, Mandy glanced at Esther, who had no interest in explaining herself to the unpleasant Chadwick.

“Mr. Pendleton, are you sure you want to risk accusing me and being ridiculed?” Esther challenged.

With a smug grin, Chadwick retorted, “Esther, look around. Who would dare mock me in my presence?”

Pretending to be concerned, Mandy added, “Brother, the woman in that video isn’t her.”

“Who cares about the truth?” Chadwick met Esther’s gaze boldly. “People only care about what they see. The truth

doesn’t matter. Now, Mandy, Bradley wants you as his wife. Just go along with it, or you’ll make yourself even more

disliked.”

Mandy froze for a moment. She would have loved to confront Chadwick if it weren’t for her fear of ruining her

polished image and revealing herself as an imposter. His arrogance would have been his downfall if not for his

privileged upbringing.

“I’ll follow your advice, brother,” Mandy agreed reluctantly.

Chadwick indifferently handed her a wedding dress catalog. “Discuss it with Bradley and choose something you

like.”

“Now?” Mandy looked surprised, having just rejected Bradley’s proposal.

“Is there ever a perfect time to pick a wedding gown?” Chadwick snapped, visibly annoyed.

“Fine,” Mandy conceded softly, taking the catalog as she left the room.

Esther felt anxious in the spacious room as Chadwick approached. Her hand tightened around the fruit knife hidden

beneath her pillow.

Chadwick looked at Esther cautiously and smiled slyly. “I may like women, but not injured ones,”

His words did little to ease Esther’s fears.

“In a week, both our families will meet. You need to be there,” Chadwick ordered.

Esther had never discussed the agreement she had been forced into with her uncles, so she hesitantly asked, “Do

we really have to meet?”

“Do you think you have a choice?” Chadwick barked, kicking the bedside table hard enough to

knock over a vase, shattering it. “Don’t try any tricks with me. I’m vengeful. You wouldn’t want your son to suffer

for your poor judgment, would you?”

“I’ll do as you say, Mr. Pendleton,” Esther consented, her reservations disappearing as Chadwick threatened Felix.

Chadwick scoffed. “A stubborn piece of trash that refuses a friendly gesture and chooses the hard way?

Disgraceful!”

He then left the room, each step filled with audacity and contempt. In Capitus, Chadwick had the power to act as he

pleased. Esther knew that if she provoked him, he could harm Felix. Her child was her weak spot and her ultimate

boundary.

When Chadwick threatened her with Felix, Esther had no choice but to comply. She retreated under her bed covers

as if they could somehow drown out her sorrow.
