Chapter 390

Thaddeus retreated to his study, waiting for Gordon’s arrival.

He contemplated the words the young maid had whispered to him. Standing by the window and

smoking, his gaze was deep and mysterious, yet his heart was pounding. So, she had private contact

with Evadne, and they were in constant touch?

Why?

Evadne, what were you trying to do? Why did you always make me uneasy?

A knock on the door interrupted his thoughts. Thaddeus called out in response, took a deep drag on his

cigarette, and flicked the ashes with his calloused fingers. The door opened, and Gordon entered

briskly, then he closed the door behind him. He handed Thaddeus a note with both hands.

“Mr. Thaddeus, this is the address Erica asked me to give you. She will be there tonight, meeting with

Ms, Evadne.”

Thaddeus felt his heart tighten, and the fingertips holding the cigarette trembling slightly.

He turned to take the note, glanced at it, and memorized the address.

“What else did the maid tell you?”

Gordon shook his head. “Mr. Thaddeus, I have a feeling that she might be a spy planted by Ms.

Evadne in the Abernathy family.”

“No need for your feelings; she definitely is.” Thaddeus‘ voice was slightly husky as he clenched the

note in his hand.

Evadne, always orchestrated things under his nose, manipulating events without him realizing.

“What does Ms. Evadne want?”

Gordon suddenly brightened. “Hey! Could it be that Ms. Evadne still has feelings for you, so she left a

spy in the Abernathy family to keep an eye on your every move?! If that’s the case, Mrs. Abernathy still

has you in her heart, Mr. Thaddeus! That’s a great news!”

Thaddeus gave him a stern look, even the smoke he exhaled seemed filled with resignation.

He wasn’t conceited enough to believe that Evadne was doing all this because she still had feelings for

him. The Ashbourne family’s heiress was ambitious and busy, she wouldn’t have the time for such

things.

There was only one possibility.

There was something in the Abernathy family that Evadne couldn’t rest easy about, something that

required her close attention.

Was it for Myra? Was she still plotting revenge against Elspeth?

If so, why did Erica reveal their plot to him today? They could have kept it private!

Did they want him to help them?

Thaddeus‘ gaze turned red, as if his frozen heart was reinvigorated. A strong sense of protection

surged within him.

“Mr. Thaddeus, do you want me to accompany you tonight?” Gordon asked with concern.

Thaddeus took a deep breath and shook his head slightly. “No, Erica only invited me. That means they

don’t want others to know their secret.”

Gordon couldn’t help but worry for him. “But Mr. Thaddeus, does Mrs. Abernathy know that you’re

going over? If it’s just Erica’s idea, won’t Mrs. Abernathy might get angry when she sees you.”

“In that case, I’ll just secretly follow her, keeping a safe distance.”

Thaddeus‘ stern gaze softened when he thought of Evadne. “She’s a constant source of mischief. I

can’t keep my eyes off her.”

At exactly nine o’clock in the evening, Glynnis, dressed in black and wore a baseball cap, left the

Windermere Estate through the back door.

As soon as she got into a cab and left, a black car slowly emerged from the darkness.

“Ms. Glynnis, should we follow?”

The driver was one of Elspeth’s trusted aides, also serving as her personal assistant. Over the years,

he had been helping them with various tasks. Tonight, he was assigned to assist Glynnis.

“No need to tail her. Tonight, this traitor, who eats from our plate and betrays us, must meet her demise.

If we follow too closely, it might cause trouble if some unlucky CCTV captures us.” Glynnis had learned

a lot from Elspeth when it came to mischief.

“Yes, Ms. Glynnis. I’ll wait for Madam’s instructions. When the time is right, I’ll take action” Mr. Ward

responded mechanically, showing no emotions as he spoke.

“How do you plan to handle it?”

Glynnis raised her eyebrows, asking with a lazy tone, “Is my mother intending to make her disappear

for some days, or to make her disappear forever?”

“Madam’s intention is to eliminate any further trouble.” Mr. Ward responded expressionlessly.

“Huh, that’s quite ruthless.”

“If Madam wasn’t ruthless, how could you have such a luxurious and pampered life, Miss Glynnis?“”

“Humph, even if my mother did nothing, my life wouldn’t change at all.”

Mr. Ward glanced at her through the rearview mirror with a hint of mockery in his eyes. “Are you sure,

Ms. Glynnis?”

Glynnis pursed her lips, feeling greatly resentful.

Elspeth schemed so hard because her position at that time required her to do so; otherwise, she would

forever be a kept woman unable to ascend the social hierarchy.

But Glynnis was different. No matter what happened, even if she did nothing, she was still Frederic’s

daughter, the true heiress of the Abernathy family!

Elspeth always called her foolish, and she was fed up with that word! She was sick of hearing it!

This time, she wanted to make a statement, to create some commotion, to show Elspeth what she was

capable of.

If Elspeth could scheme, she could do it even better!

“Mr. Ward, I have an idea that could trap all those who want to harm mom and me.” Glynnis leaned in,

her tone carrying a hint of maliciousness.

Mr. Ward looked at her solemnly. “What’s your idea?“

“Instead of stopping Erica meeting that guy, why don’t we just let her go ahead? Then we can catch

them all at once? Wouldn’t that be satisfying?”

Glynnis grinned wickedly. “And I’m a hundred percent sure she is Evadne’s spy planted among us.

Thaddeus, with his arrogant demeanor, probably wouldn’t be stoop to such actions. And if she was his

person, there’s no need for her to take such risks and slip out in the middle of the night?”

Mr. Ward nodded, “So, Ms. Glynnis, are you suggesting that I eliminate Evadne?”

Eliminate Evadne?

Glynnis‘ heart raced, a mix of nervousness, fear and excitement!

She had dreamed of dragging Evadne out and feeding her to the dogs!

But that was Evadne, the heiress of the wealthiest man in Skyrim. If Glynnis really killed her, Emeric

would undoubtedly devote all his resources to find the murderer and avenge his daughter. She would

bear enormous risks and endless consequences.

However, tonight she had a golden opportunity. Evadne was meeting with Erica secretly, so she

wouldn’t bring many people with her.

“Do you dare?” Glynnis asked tentatively, her gaze dark and probing.

“I don’t mind. I’ve done this sort of thing before.” Mr. Ward, a former mercenary, was a born killer.

Evadne didn’t mean much to him. Glynnis‘ eyes sparkled with a cold light, and she laughed, “As long

as you can do it, tonight will be Evadne’s last night on earth!”

Evadne and Jason waited in a park in the west district, where no one was around.

After all, with her current status, she would attract a lot of attention in crowded places, which could

bring trouble to Erica, who was acting as their informant. Jason kept checking his watch, feeling a bit

nervous during waiting. “Why hasn’t she come yet? Could something have gone wrong?”

Evadne furrowed her brows, equally concerned.

“Miss, did Erica suddenly arrange to meet you because she has obtained some significant information

about Elspeth?”

“Everything will be clear when Erica arrives.””

Soon, hurried footsteps approached from a distant.

“Ms. Evadne! Run!”

Erica rushed to them in a panic, her face and sweat pouring down her back, “I’m being followed!

They’ve traced me here! Ms. Evadne, run!”

Evadne quickly reached out to support the frightened Erica with both hands, her gaze burning with

determination. “Don’t be afraid. I won’t let anyone hurt you.”

Before she could finish, a sinister string of footsteps had reached them.

Jason’s heart pounded with alarm as he swiftly positioned himself in front of Evadne and Erica, his fists

clenched and muscles tensed beneath his suit.

Erica paralyzed with fear, but Evadne remained calm. Her eyes fixed on the three men in black, and

she tightened her embrace around the girl in her arm.

The leader of these men was none other than Mr. Ward.

With her wealth of experience navigating the underworld, Evadne quickly assessed that this man would

be extremely formidable to deal with.

“Who are you?” Jason gritted his teeth, asking in a cold tone.

Mr. Ward tilted his head, looking at Evadne. His voice was indifferent, “You must be Ms. Evadne.”

“I am Evadne.” She replied in an icy tone.

“Well, you certainly live up to your reputation for beauty.”

Mr. Ward commented, smirking in a way that was more grotesque than cry. “However, it’s a pity.”

Evadne clenched her teeth as anger surged within her.

Well, how audacious!

“So, you’re working for Elspeth? Did she sent you to kill me?”

“Ms. Evadne, as a heiress of a wealthy family, you could have lived comfortably. But you chose to

provoke the wrong people and meddle in matters that aren’t your concern. Then, as an adult, you

should pay for your actions. It’s only fair.”

“Hahaha, what a fine statement!”

Evadne laughed fearlessly, her voice clear and bold, “Then, let me make it clear to you. If you have the

ability, try killing me. You better make sure you can kill me. But if you can’t, I promise to make sure you,

and whoever is lurking in the shadows behind you, meet a gruesome end!”

Mr. Ward laughed again.

He’d heard threats like this before, but they all ended up dead.

“Miss, I’ll hold them off here. You get Erica and go!” Jason urged, his fists were clenched.

“Erica, go.”

Evadne gave Erica a shove, then turned to Jason with her firm gaze. “I’ll stay and help you. You can’t

handle them alone!”

Jason stared deeply into Evadne’s eyes, his heart pounding.

In this lifetime, he and the young lady could only be crucial partners for each other.

He would have a wife and children in the future. However, Evadne’s place in his heart was

unparalleled, irreplaceable by anyone.

Once, he loved her.

Now, his feelings for her were unwavering loyalty until death.

Erica didn’t want to run away, but she knew that being powerless, she would only be a burden. She

nodded with tears welling up in her eyes, then turned to run, only to find two more people blocking her

way from behind!

They were surrounded, and a thick aura of danger permeated the air.

This time, their chances of survival were slim.

“Let’s make it quick.”

Mr. Ward tilted his head slightly, his gaze never leaving Evadne’s pale face. “I’ll handle Ms. Evadne

personally; that would be a sign of respect”

A black Lamborghini pulled up sharply on the deserted road. Thaddeus stepped out of the car, his gaze

fixed on the darkened park. His expression carried a weighty concern. He walked briskly towards the

park; the chill wind brushed against his face. The eerie silence only heightened his sense of

foreboding.

Whether it was because Evadne occupied a special place in his heart or because they had shared

more than one life–and–death experience, Thaddeus couldn’t tell.

In the mysterious workings of fate, they always seemed to understand each other without words, their

hearts connected by an unseen bond.

At that moment, his phone vibrated in his hand, displaying an unfamiliar number.

He recalled that earlier this day, he had given Erica his personal number, just to be cautious.

This phone never received calls from unknown numbers.

So, it could only be Erica!

Thaddeus‘ heart sank as he answered the call. “Hello.”

“Mr. Thaddeus! Save Ms. Evadne. Save her! Ahh!”

With a sudden scream, the call abruptly ended.

Thaddeus‘ breath caught, staring at the darkened screen, his heart pounding violently against his ribs.

Evadne!

His forehead drenched in sweat, he sprinted forward, dialing Gordon’s number.

“Mrs. Abernathy is in trouble. Send help immediately!”

In the dim light, the sounds of intense fighting echoed incessantly.

Jason engaged in a desperate battle, fists and feet colliding, the tearing sound of the air cutting through

the ears and inducing a heart–pounding fear.

Despite his agility, facing multiple adversaries with knives was challenging. After dozens of rounds, he

was overpowered by the ruthless group.

Jason’s left arm and right leg were slashed, blood flowing freely, wounds revealing bone. His once

pristine suit now bore numerous cuts, a pitiful and heartbreaking sight as blood stained the previously

immaculate white shirt.

Yet he persisted in his struggle, driven solely by the determination to protect Evadne. His resolve was

so strong that he could not feel the pain.

“Damn, he’s tough.”

B

Mr. Ward was losing patience with Jason. He drove a knife directly into Jason’s left shoulder, then

cruelly twisted the knife!

“Ahh-!”

Jason gripped the hand holding the knife, an unbearable pain washing through him, making him groan

in agony!

He felt his flesh and bone being pulverized. And his arm might be rendered useless.

“Killing one more means dealing with one more problem, creating unnecessary trouble.”

Mr. Ward leaned in to whisper near his ear, “Otherwise, this knife would be plunging into your stomach,

shredding your intestines.”

In the next moment, with a kick, Mr. Ward sent Jason flying several meters, crashing heavily to the

ground!

“Jason!”

Evadne, with her eyes filled with rage, snapped the arm of one assailant like a twig.

Jason, covered in blood, fell to the ground, looking at Evadne with guilt–filled eyes.

He wasn’t afraid of death.

He was afraid of falling, who would protect her?

A blazing rage consumed Evadne’s core. She snatched the knife from an assailant, and she replicated

the action, driving it with even more force through the man’s body.

Mr. Ward revealed an amused expression.

This Ms. Evadne was different from all the other ladies. She was brave and cunning, and unexpectedly,

her combat skills were also formidable, rivaling that of a man.

If it wasn’t for her constant opposition to his madam, he wouldn’t want to kill such a beautiful woman.

It was a pity.

Evadne took down an assailant and rushed towards Jason without a second thought.

Just then, she felt a bone chilling cold that pressed against her from behind!

“Miss. Watch out!” Jason shouted out with his last bit of strength, the overwhelming fear causing his

heart to stop!

Just behind Evadne, a chilling dagger was raised high.

Like the scythe of the Grim Reaper, it was poised to send her to her death!
