Chapter 1489

Without any windows, he could not see if it was dark or bright outside. Occasionally, someone would

deliver him simple food and water so he would not die of hunger, but Thompson had not returned since

he left.

He was not even certain if Thompson was willing to help him or how long he would be allowed to live.

He barely hung on for a while and tried to sleep through his ordeal. Hearing the sound of the door

opening, he thought someone was delivering food and did not bother to open his eyes.

However, he then heard the clear and blood-curdling click-clack of high heels that stung his eardrums

and made his heart shudder. It was the first time he had felt such fear toward a woman.

'Rhea Moore is such a cruel woman! She is cruel deep down, and it is not a pretense. She is so cold-

blooded that she doesn't care about human lives. What a horrible woman!'

He did not want to open his eyes to look at her face until the click-clack stopped before him.

Towering over him, Rhea saw that he seemed to be asleep or dead, being so still. However, she saw

his eyes moving up and down beneath his eyelids.

Curling her lips, she lifted her hand, and a shaft of harsh light suddenly fell on his face, so blindingly

bright that Austin held up his arms to cover his eyes.

"Rhea Moore, you're insane! Crazy bitch!" he scolded.

Having stayed in the dark for a long time, he felt dizzy and revolted at the sudden intensity of the light

shining on his face

Rhea laughed heartily. "Aren't you asleep? Why aren't you dead yet?" "Relax. I won't die before you

do!" Austin retorted.

Unmoved by his retort, Rhea laughed and said, "You're just in denial!"

Slowly decreasing the brightness of the light beam to the average level, she said casually, "I must hand

it to you for hanging on until now. However, I wonder how you mustered your will to live. Do you still

think someone will come to save you?"

Alarmed, Austin showed no emotion and said, with his eyelids lowered, "Of course! I’ve been missing

for so long that my parents suspect something is up and call the police. Very soon the police would

come here and arrest you all!" "Oh, yeah?” Rhea said as she laughed. "Your parents? Would they truly

think something is up? Everyone knows you practically live in the research institute. Besides, being

such a hotshot miracle doctor, it’s not unusual for you to visit your patients all over the country. What’s

so unusual about you only being gone a few days?”

Austin moved his mouth but said nothing, knowing what she said was true.

'As a matter of fact, my parents probably would not be surprised if I went missing for a month without

informing them myself or through others beforehand.'

Since he kept quiet, Rhea continued, "Poor thing. It’s been days, but no one bothers to ask about you.

Just what are you hanging on for? Oh, I see. You're waiting for the person you sought help from, aren’t

you?" Rhea looked as if she had just realized it, and her words made his heart pump faster.

He subconsciously lifted his gaze to her and saw her pretty face look creepy under the light of her

flashlight.

What she was about to say would make him even more desperate. Slightly bending over, Rhea looked

at him and said, "Let me guess. Are you waiting for Professor Thompson?"
