Chapter 468

However, many seconds had passed, and Kevan still showed no intention of leaving the kitchen.

Larissa looked at him in confusion. “Anything else?”

“Nah.” He smirked, with a hint of amusement in his dark eyes. “It’s pretty boring to be sitting alone

outside, so I thought Id hang out and chat with you.”

Once again, she was annoyed at herself for asking him the question, Being alone with Kevan was

undoubtedly more difficult and agonizing than dealing with difficult clients. Worse still she couldn’t

decline his offer.

“Alright, sure.” She forced a smile.

She ensured she appeared occupied-fetching water, boiling water, linding cups, and preparing tea. She

kept her actions smooth without any pause, making it hard for Kevan to find an opportunity to talk to

her. However, boiling water took some time.

So, she turned and faced him. Before he had a chance to speak, she quickly added, “I go check if Aster

is awake.”

Of course, Kevan was aware that she was intentionally avoiding him. He felt a pang of sadness but

maintained a calm expression. “Sure.”

Larissa stayed in Aster’s room until the water boiled. She felt relieved when she heard the sharp

whistle sound, and she hurriedly ran to the kitchen. Kevan had already turned off the gas stove and

was pouring water into a cup.

As he saw her approaching, he casually asked. “How’s Aster?”

She calmly lied without hesitation, “He woke up for a bit but fell back asleep after I soothed him.”

He responded with a faint “On. I see.”

Alter the tea was made, they went to the living room. The atmosphere was somewhat awkward. Larissa

felt uneasy, so she twiddled her fingers and avoided eye contact with Kevan.

“I envy your relationship with Aster” he spoke up.

“Huh?” She straightened her back at the sound of his voice.

“I mean, the kind of effortless mother-son relationship.” He cradled the teacup, his eyes lilled with pure

envy and a hint of disappointment.

He went on to say, “Just earlier in the car, you told me to spend more time with my daughter. The truth

is, it’s not that I don’t want to. Rather, I’m afraid.”

“Why?” Larissa’s curiosity was piqued by his words.

He lowered his head slightly. A tinge of sadness was formed in his smille.

“You should know that I spent six years in the hospital, and all my memories are lost. Those who were

once closest are now strangers to me.” His fingers lightly traced the edge of the cup, and his gaze

became unlocused as he continued, “Rebuilding my past interpersonal relationship is a very difficult

thing. Even to this day, I still have a distant relationship with my parents. I’m only close with Dylan now

because we spend most of our time together. That’s why we slowly became friends.

I was really caught off guard when Ruby showed up with Bethany that day. It’s a hard pill to swallow,

even though my mother had told me on the day I woke that I had a daughter, I don’t know Ruby. I don’t

even like her. And truth be told, Bethany is not likable at all. I don’t feel any joy or excitement that a

father should have when I see her. Leven lind her repulsive.

I know I’m probably coming off as a terrible person, but this is the truth.” He chuckled lightly.

Larissa couldn’t fully understand his feelings at that time, but she could empathize. It was difficult to like

Bethany at first glance.

Kevan continued. “Later on, I heard about what Bethany did to Aster. Some fathers might hit her, scold

her, or even try to teach her patiently. But not me. I just wanted to keep my distance from her. Out of

sight, out of mind.

I’m well aware that I’m not a responsible father. I hate her laws, and I reluse to correct her because I

leel she’s beyond saving.”
