Chapter 1194

Thalassa and Hertha were scared out of their wits, gasping for air as panic took hold. Hertha had

slammed on the brakes with all her might, her body rigid with tension.

The car continued to skid forward, on a collision course with disaster, but the woman standing defiantly

in front of them, arms wide, showed no intention of moving. Resigned, she closed her eyes and stood

her ground.

Miraculously, the car screeched to a halt mere inches from the woman. The abrupt stop sent Thalassa

and Hertha lurching forward, nearly launching them through the windshield if not for their seat belts

snapping them back into place.

After a few shaky breaths, they settled back into their seats, hearts still racing.

Thalassa, still reeling from the shock, peered ahead to see a middle-aged lady dressed to the nines,

exuding wealth and propriety. She certainly didn’t appear to be unhinged.

Yet, they had no idea who this woman was or why she would risk her life to stop their car.

As Thalassa puzzled over the situation, the woman opened her eyes, visibly shaken by the proximity of

death. Without a moment’s hesitation, she strode to the passenger door and began pounding

frantically.

Thalassa could see the urgency in the woman’s eyes as she knocked, so she rolled down

the window.

With a voice thick with desperation, the woman said, “You must be Thalassa; I’ve seen your picture. I

know my daughter has done wrong, but she’s so young, blinded by love for a man, which led her

astray. You’re safe now, and I beg you to forgive her, to drop this matter. Please, I’m begging you.”

Her plea was fervent, her emotions raw.

Thalassa was taken aback. She wracked her brain to place the woman, to recall if they

had ever met.

But sifting through her memories, Thalassa was certain this was their first encounter.

Despite meeting for the first time, Thalassa deduced from the woman’s words that she must be

Debby’s mother.

Only Debby fit the description of someone who, out of excessive love, could err in such a way. And now

her mother was pleading for leniency.

Thalassa recalled how Lysander had rescued her from the fire and had asked how she ‘wanted to deal

with Debby. They hadn’t reached an agreement, and Thalassa had since

disengaged from the issue, no longer concerned with Debby’s fate.

And now, suddenly, someone was begging for her forgiveness on Debby’s behalf?

Confused, Thalassa responded, “I haven’t pursued any charges against Debby. Coming to me is

pointless.”

“How can you say that? The very night of the incident, the police arrested her. They reviewed all the

surveillance footage, saw her tie you to the gravestone, pour gasoline, and set the fire. The police are

calling it attempted murder, and she’s facing 20 years in prison. She’s only 27-20 years would mean

she’d be 47 upon release. Her best years would be gone, her life ruined.”

Debby’s mother choked up as she spoke, pleading with Thalassa, “You have children; you understand

the heartache and despair of being locked up for 20 years. I know she was wrong to treat you that way.

If you want to punish her, say five or six years, but with 20 years, by the time she gets out, it’ll be too

late for marriage and children. Her life would truly be over.”

Thalassa understood what Debby’s mother was implying-the golden years for a woman were indeed in

her twenties and thirties. Past forty, life and fertility declined.

Debby’s mother was sincerely looking out for her daughter’s future.
