Chapter 1066

The hospital room was fraught with a palpable tension. Amelia’s voice was demanding.

Lysander stood there, a silent sentinel, his aura icy and restrained. Despite his efforts to

keep Amelia at bay, it was clear from the sharp, frostbitten contours of his face that a

tempest of rage was brewing beneath the surface, held back only by his formidable self-

control.

Just a moment before, the doctor had been dispensing advice to Thalassa with a breezy

tone and reminding her of the precautions she needed to take during her pregnancy.

But now, Amelia burst into the room, frantic and demanding to know if the child Thalassa

was carrying belonged to another man.

The easy atmosphere was shattered.

The doctor, sensing the icy chill emanating from Lysander, was petrified to come any

closer. It felt as if Lysander cold presence alone could freeze the entire room.

With a voice trembling with fear, the doctor quickly excused himself. “It seems you have

some family matters to attend to. I’ll leave you be. Call me if you need anything.”

He gave them a cursory nod and fled the room as if any delay might trap him in the

crossfire of their domestic crisis.

“Out with it, talk to me!” Amelia’s voice was shrill with urgency, her face a mask of sweat

and tears.

Thalassa’s breaths came in harsh gasps. As a mother herself, she understood Amelia’s

anguish all too well. There was no greater sorrow in the world than a parent outliving their

child, especially one they had cherished so dearly.

Her heart ached as if it were being torn apart, but she had to reveal the cruel truth to

Amelia.

“No, the child I’m carrying… it’s not Leopold’s!” This revelation threatened to extinguish

the last flicker of hope in Amelia’s heart.

But it was the bitter truth.

“I took the kids and fled to the countryside. I had no idea Leopold was there before I

entered the room. We barely spoke two words before Lysander arrived and took me and

the kids away. There was no chance for anything to happen between Leopold and me!”

Thalassa’s face was ashen. Her eyes were clear and resolute, her words firm and decisive.

Even if Lysander hadn’t arrived when he did, nothing would have happened between her

and Leopold either. She had made it clear to him long ago that there would never be

anything between them. She wanted him to forget her and start a new life.

She had never given him any hope, always rejecting him decisively.

She turned Leopold away and hoped he would find happiness elsewhere. There was no

way she would have entangled herself with him again, let alone bear his child.

Upon hearing Thalassa’s words, Amelia’s shaking frame froze, her eyes wide as the stars

within them seemed to fall. She was stunned into silence.

Then, after a suspended moment, tears cascaded down her cheeks. Her voice was

breaking as she cried out in denial, “No, you’re lying! Leopold loved you; there’s no way

nothing happened when you were alone together! The child you’re carrying is his! It has to

be his!”

As Amelia screamed, she lunged toward Thalassa’s bedside. Her hands were clawing at

the air, ready to tear into Thalassa and shake the truth out of her that the child must be

Leopold’s.

Lysander’s large hand pressed against Amelia’s shoulder and held her back. As Amelia

grew more frantic, his grip tightened and pushed her away. He growled with a cold fury,

“Enough! She’s not lying! She was trying to escape with the kids, and I caught them just

after she saw Leopold!”

Thalassa’s eyes widened in disbelief. She was shocked that Lysander believed her story

and was taking her side.

After the secret of her four children was discovered, Thalassa had fled with them in a

harrowing escape, only to be captured again by Lysander.

Back then, Lysander had found her and Leopold at her family home. After dragging her

back, he confronted her and accused her of trying to elope with Leopold and the children.

She had no way to explain that bumping into Leopold was a mere coincidence. Lysander

had refused to believe her then, convinced she was guilty of betrayal.

And now, he believed her as she told the same story to Amelia?
