Chapter 605 "The road loops right back from the south, doesn't it?” Keen said coolly with a calm expression, showing no signs of panic. He was merely following orders. His boss, Leopold, had told him not to tell a word to Megan about their whereabouts.
Megan wasn't buying it. She got to her feet and bolted towards Leopold.
“Leopold, | got bitten by some nasty bug. What should | do? Oh..." Her tears flowed like rain, her sobs a heartbreaking symphony.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtLeopold glanced at her wound and replied, "It's not too bad. A bit of ointment should do the trick." Megan shot Aurelia a malicious glare and pointed toward the trail leading into the northern woods. "Did you guys just come from there? With all those nasty bugs in there, you didn't get bitten?" Leopold's gaze darkened, becoming inscrutable.
“We used bug spray, didn't you?" “I was worried about the toxins, you know, for the baby, so | skipped it," Megan mumbled, her head hanging low.
"You didn't use bug spray and wandered off there? Why not stay put at the campsite? You're asking for trouble!" Leopold scolded without sympathy.
Megan felt a lump in her throat, on the verge of tears. "I just wanted to find you." Leopold snapped, "What, you have to follow me everywhere? Are you my shadow? | can't stand clingy women.
Even if you are my wife, you have no right to invade my personal space. Got it?" Megan felt utterly crushed.
She wouldn't have rushed after him in such a panic if he hadn't been with Aurelia.
Skyler eyed her neck and clicked his tongue. “It looks like a serious bite. Better get to a hospital before it gets dangerous.” He pointed to a scar on his hand. "Got this from a nasty little critter myself. Hurt like hell and took forever to heal, and even left a scar." Megan was fuming, grinding her teeth. “Skyler, if you're so scared of bugs, why head towards the bushes? Why not take a different path? The bushes are crawling with them!" She was probing, trying to catch Skyler off guard. He wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed and might slip up.
Skyler blinked. “Didn't Leopold tell you we'd sprayed... bug spray? Keeps them at bay." Megan wasn't satisfied and kept pressing. "I've been walking for ages and didn't see any path looping back.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmHow did you guys get around?" "We went through the bushes! It was a blast, and we even caught some grasshoppers, Skyler declared, pulling out a lively small critter from his pocket.
Megan recoiled in disgust. She hated all bugs.
Skyler pocketed the grasshopper again. "As pests, grasshoppers aren't poisonous and dont bite. They're fun to play with." Megan was irked by his tight-lipped act, inventing stories on the spot. It seemed even the dimwitted weren't easy to fool.
“Leopold, those bushes are nearly as tall as a person. You weren't afraid of venomous snakes?" Leopold's expression turned impatient. “The bug which has bitten you doesn't come with neurotoxins, does it? Why are you always talking such nonsense?" He walked to sit under the shade of an awning, twisting the cap off a juice and taking a swig.
Aurelia joined William and Skyler, passing out juice boxes to the kids.
Melissa was still hungry after eating a sandwich.
“Aurelia, don't be stingy. Why did you leave me only one sandwich? I'm still hungry. Go make me another, will you?" Leopold shot her a glare, saying icily, "I told her to leave you just one. Aren't you always on about dieting? Why the sudden appetite? If you're hungry, make your own." Melissa pouted. "If | could make them, do you think I'd bother her?" Aurelia finished her juice and stood up. "No worries. I'll whip up a few more. Anyone else feeling peckish?" Skyler chimed in at once, "I'll take another piece!" Megan's neck still burned with pain, and fear crept in. She snapped a photo and sent it to her family doctor.
