"Too bad your boyfriend isn't the CEO of Arnold Corporation.” As Jadie and her friend walked, they could hear the girls behind them chatting. ‘So Madelyn stayed late last night because she was in the special class. Is she still coming back to the Math Olympiad class?" Madelyn was stapling some papers when she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her fingertip. She looked down and saw a drop of blood on her pale finger. At the same time, her eyelid twitched, and she had a bad feeling. Thankfully, the staple was not rusty, so she did not need a shot.
Classes did not end until 9:30 p.m. Madelyn went to the restroom, and when she came out, she looked in the mirror at the spot behind her. All she saw was darkness. "Am | too stressed from all the studying? | keep feeling like someone's watching me,’ she thought. She shook the water off her hands and headed back to the classroom to grab her backpack.

The light, activated by motion sensors, suddenly turned on. Madelyn saw that it was Forrest in front of her, and her panic quickly went away. Forrest, who looked like he had drunk a lot, held her tightly. He leaned heavily on her shoulder. Without the wall behind her, she would have fallen down.
Madelyn asked. "Forrest, do you even know what you're doing?" "You've changed, Madelyn!" he said, his voice a mix of anger and hurt.
"Forrest, let go! This isn't right!" She tried to push him away, but he held her so tightly she could not move.
"You have a girlfriend, Forrest. Is this fair to her?" Madelyn's voice was stern.
"It's pretend!" Madelyn looked surprised. "What?" "I only pretend to have a girlfriend. I did it to make you mad." Madelyn slowly pushed his hands away, and they both stopped talking. She heard his heavy breathing and noticed that he smelled like cologne. She wanted to say something but did not know what. The light in the stairwell turned off, and they stood in the darkness. What he said stirred up her feelings, like when you toss a stone into a quiet pond, making ripples.
"You promised to help me with my homework, but you never did. You didn't even remember my birthday... You owe me!" he said.

"Forrest... do you like me?" Forrest suddenly looked at her, his eyes looking a little drunk. He gently held her face in his hands, their noses almost touching, their eyes locked. His eyes were intense and full of emotion as if he was trying to pull her into a deep sea of feelings.
"Li..." Forrest mumbled but could not finish. His eyes closed, and he fell asleep, leaning on Madelyn. Even though he only said half a word, Madelyn knew what he meant.
‘He likes me?" she thought.
