sat up and pulled back the curtain, only to freeze.

It was Joshua.

He had brought food.

Joshua put the food down on the table and looked directly at her. “Who were you talking to?”

Alicia did her best to keep her composure. “I thought it was the nurse coming.”

She reached for her phone under the blanket, hoping to text Caden and delay his coming upstairs.

Joshua, however, moved closer to the bed, keeping his eyes fixed on her, watching her every move. There was

no way she could reach the phone without him noticing.

“How do you feel now?” Joshua asked with a frown.

Alice gave him a disdainful look. “Why are you here? Didn't you say it was a delicate moment for you?”

Alicia was not convinced. She had seen him do this kind of theater before.
