After he was done talking on the phone in the yard, Bernard headed back into the house just in tto see Hera grabbing her bag and leaving the western wing.
He glanced at the clock on the wall. It was already 9:00 pm. Where was she going to at this hour? "Where are you going?" he asked.
Hera stopped. Based on her understanding of Bernard, he would stop her from leaving if she told him frankly that she wanted to go and meet Tyler.
"Samantha's feeling unwell. I'm heading over to her place to check on her," Hera lied.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"I'm heading out too. I'll send you there," said Bernard. He entered the house and grabbed his car keys.
If she let him drive her there, she'd be exposed. Hastily, she said, "You don't need to. Just go and do what you need to." Bernard lifted an eyebrow at how calm she was to know that he was leaving at this hour. He asked, "Won't you askwhere I'm going? Aren't you worried?" How could she be worried? Despite getting drugged, Bernard remained rational and kept his cool even after a woman tried to seduce him.
Anyway, since he brought it up, Hera might as well go along with the flow. She approached him and tugged at his tie. "Are you sure you want to makeworry about that?" she said, her tone a tad menacing.
"Of course not!" Bernard answered without hesitation. "I would never do anything to make you worry! You're the only one for me!" Hera smiled and smoothened out his tie, saying "Well then, I shouldn't be worried, right? Go and make yourself busy." Bernard looked down and planted a kiss on her forehead. "Are you sure you don't wantto drive you there?" "Nope. I've already called a cab," said Hera.
"That won't do. I'll worry if you take a stranger's car. You have two options. Either you take Wayne's car, and he'll drive you back home, or I'll have him pick Samantha up and bring her here to you." How was that even an option? The clinic was closed at this hour, and Wayne and the others were back halready. Catherine was probably going to bed soon since she slept early due to her age.
Before Hera could even refuse, Bernard had already dialed Wayne's number.
A flabbergasted Hera suspected Bernard of having Wayne tail her at all times.
"Not having a driver's license is so inconvenient!" Hera thought. She would register for driving lessons first thing tomorrow! Wayne arrived soon enough.
"Textwhen you arrive," Bernard reminded her after seeing her plop into the back seat and hearing her give Wayne Samantha's address.
Only after that did Bernard shut the door and stand by the entrance to watch the car drive off into the distanee. Then, he went back to the house for his car and drove into the night. en.kikistories After Wayne had driven for sdistance and Hera had made sure that the clinic wasn't in sight, she told him, "Wayne, to Nightless Haven we go." "Aren't we going to Ms. Steele's place?" Wayne sounded puzzled at her request.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"Nope." As much aloof as Wayne was, he instantly knew that Hera had lied to Bernard about seeing Samantha.
If Bernard asked him about where Hera went after this, should he tell the truth? Or should he keep it a secret? Wayne worked for Bernard, so Bernard was his boss. But then, Wayne was indebted to Hera, so he couldn't betray her. Wayne's mind was in a state of conflict throughout the drive to Nightless Haven. In the end, it was Hera who gave him an answer. "Park somewhere and wait forfor a while. Don't tell Bernard about this," she told him before getting out of the car. "Okay." Wayne nodded and obeyed her orders.
After entering Nightless Haven, Hera told the bartender who approached her the number of the private room Tyler had reserved beforehand.
The bartender put on a weing smile the moment he realized that the private room she mentioned was for the bar's VIPs. He eagerly led her up the stairs to the third floor.
"We're here," said the bartender as he knocked on the door.
1 Hera had thought that she and Tyler would be the only ones discussing things tonight. To her surprise, the door opened to reveal a private room with disco lights. Cigarette smoke filled the air, and the atmosphere was rowdy and ufortable. en.kikistories The men and women in the room danced and sang along to the raucous music. Splayed dice while others played all sorts of other games. It was so clamorous that no one paid attention to anyone who entered the room. en.kikistories
